Population

The Longview Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 68,616 in 1970 to 102,410 in 2010. That was an increase of 49.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,613 in 1970 to 5,514 in 2010. That was an increase of 241.8 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 2.4 percent to 5.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 44.6 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the primary source of added population in the first two periods, replaced by B-D in the most recent period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM replaced B-D as the primary source of added population in the most recent period.
